Our pro tips
Haven't you finished the tile work yet? Great! You can control it, because when it comes to completely overhauling your bathroom, we have only one most important tipย to share with you.
While choosing tile colors and fixtures is fun, the ultimate secret to a successful renovation is communicating with your contractor about the shower curb slope to help avoid future leaks. It sounds like a tiny, almost invisible detail, but getting the shower curb sloped properly is the single most effective way to ensure water drains properly back into the shower pan and stays off your bathroom floor.ย
The Secret to a Leak-Proof Shower
The goal is to ensure that water drains properly back into the shower pan rather than sitting on the curb or spilling out onto your bathroom floor. Here is exactly what you need to share with your builder:
* The Standard Slope: The universally recommended slope is approximately 1/4" per linear foot, angled specifically toward the drain.
* The Practical Example: If your shower curb is a standard 6 inches wide, the slope should drop about 1/8" inward so gravity can do its job.
There is a file you can reference named slope mobile.jpg. I highly recommend pulling this image up and showing it directly to your contractor so there is zero confusion about the pitch of the curb. It is a microscopic adjustment to the eye, but it is the single most important detail in your entire bathroom remodel!
